Weekly Tapes Vol.1

The sun has finally broken through the grey skies of the UK, and with the clocks springing forward, we’ve been gifted longer days. It’s that time of year when the first real taste of warmth makes a pint in a beer garden feel like a celebration. And what’s a sun-soaked afternoon without the perfect soundtrack?

These four tracks capture that early spring energy—lush pads, deep textures, and bouncy melodies that feel like golden light stretching across rooftops. Whether you're basking in the warmth, taking a lazy city stroll, or catching up with mates in the park, these tunes are the perfect companion.

Nouveau Monica - Pulsating

Nouveau was a fresh find this week, and their track Pulsating did not disappoint. It's the kind of tune that just locks you in, effortless yet full of energy. The bouncy drum groove keeps your head nodding, never overpowering, just gliding underneath those stunning, detuned pads. Then there’s that garage-tinged vocal chop, weaving its way in, growing into this hazy blend of oooos and ahhhhs, melting right into the chords. It’s warm, it’s rich, it’s got that unmistakable UK feel—like the sun breaking through on a cloudy day.

Nouveau's ability to blend these elements creates a track that's both nostalgic and fresh. The interplay between the rhythmic percussion and the lush synth textures showcases their knack for crafting immersive soundscapes. It's a track that invites you to get lost in its layers, each listen revealing something new.

Vromm - Red Tuna

Vromm’s Red Tuna is one of those tracks that just takes you away from the first few seconds. The breakbeats hit crisp and clean, giving the whole thing a steady pulse, but it’s the synth work that really makes it. Cold, jazzy textures wash over the drums, layered with these subtle dubby reverbs that pull you deeper into the mix. It’s got that perfect balance—intricate but never overworked, energetic but still spacious.

Vromm’s been around the UK bass scene for a while, releasing on labels like Critical Music and Om Unit’s Cosmic Bridge, but this one marks his debut on R&S Records—and it’s a statement piece. It’s got that Barker-meets-breaks kind of energy, but there’s no mistaking Vromm’s own touch in the way it all comes together. The arrangement just flows, nothing feels forced.

People have been hyping this one up for good reason—someone even called Vromm one of the few producers who can balance sound design and originality at this level, and honestly, they’re not wrong. It’s the kind of track that just keeps pulling you back in. Definitely looking forward to digging into more of his work.

Konx-Om-Pax - Missing Something

Konx-Om-Pax has long been a fixture in my playlists. Hailing from Glasgow—a city renowned for its vibrant music scene—his work consistently showcases exceptional synth craftsmanship and composition. His 2019 track "Missing Something," from the album Ways of Seeing, stands out as a prime example.

The track opens with a captivating melody that immediately draws you in, reminiscent of Deadmau5's iconic "Strobe." The tone and swing of the melody evoke a similar emotional resonance, creating an immersive listening experience. As the track progresses, layers of lush, detuned pads blend seamlessly with subtle, rhythmic percussion, building a rich, textured soundscape. The arrangement demonstrates Scholefield's meticulous attention to detail, allowing each element to shine without overpowering the others.

"Missing Something" exemplifies Konx-Om-Pax's ability to craft evocative electronic music that resonates on both an emotional and cerebral level. It's a track that not only showcases his Glasgow roots but also his evolution as an artist, making it a standout piece in his discography.

Daniel Avery - In Your Sleep

Daniel Avery's In Your Sleep is one of those tracks that had been sitting quietly in my library, waiting for the right moment to truly resonate. While I've been no stranger to Avery's work—having experienced his sets across the UK and delved deep into his albums—this particular track hadn't received its due attention from me until recently. Taking the time to immerse myself in it this week, I found a newfound appreciation for its nuanced brilliance.

The track opens with warm, uplifting house stabs and some filtered drum that exude an inviting energy, compelling you to move. As it progresses, a delicate synth lead emerges, echoing gracefully over the rhythmic foundation. Avery's signature production techniques shine through—the heavy saturation and compression give the track a cohesive, enveloping feel, while the trademark stuttered flanger hi-hats add a gentle, ear-tickling texture. The simplicity of the arrangement makes it an effortless listen, perfect for those early morning drives with the sun rising on the horizon.

For those keen to explore this track further, In Your Sleep is available on Bandcamp/Spotify/Instagram. If this is your first time listening to him I highly recommend to check out the rest of his catalog and immerse yourself in his soundscapes.
